Now that Spring is here,  the end to ski/snowboarding season is just around the corner. As upsetting as that may be, there is always a silver lining. Right now is the best time to find great deals on ski/snowboarding equipment, including ski and snowboard racks. In case you're still not sure what way you want to go when it comes to purchasing a rack, or even what the difference is from one rack to another, let me break it down for you.

As long as you have a large, solid roof, I highly recommend you go with a roof rack. A roof-mounted system allows you to carry cargo boxes, cargo baskets, kayaks and canoes, bikes, snowboards, skis, etc. But, before you rush out to buy the mounts, you need towers and crossbars -- unless your vehicle already has bars.

Hitch racks are another good option, especially for carting around bikes. If you have an SUV, CUV, Jeep, truck or minivan, hitch mounts slide right into the hitch receiver on the back. There are several different sizes and styles available, some that even fold, tilt or swing away, giving you access to the rear of your ride. Hitch racks are nice because they are fast and easy to load. And, you can purchase a HitchSki adpater that lets you easily transport your skis and boards.
